Landscape Photography Guide

Landscape photography can include taking images of fields, mountains,  country parks etc.  It also includes taking photographs of the sea and costal areas.  Sometimes these are called seascapes.

Example of a landscape

Many photographers take great pleasure in not only pursuing their photography hobby but also getting close to nature.  If you like walking or hiking then landscape photography is a great way of combing your two hobbies as well as keeping fit.

There are many different skills needed to take effective photographs of landscapes.  If you are including water in your image then you can create some fantastic effects by slowing down the shutter speed to blur / soften the moving water.  A tripod is a must for this type of image.

Here is an example of a photograph of the sea crashing against rocks with the shutter speed slowed to soften the water.

If you wish to take a lot of landscape images then you will want to have a wide angle lens.  Zoom lenses are the obvious choice and a lens starting at 18mm to 200mm – 300mm will be ideal.  I use a Tamron 18 – 250mm AF lens on my Nikon D300 with some pleasing results.

Some popular landscape photography locations include hills, farms, waterfalls, coastlines beaches & Lakes
